ABOUT ABOUT

Saxophone Virtuoso James. Carter, one of the most energetic, versatile and prolific jazz musicians of our time will pay tribute to Philadelphia Jazz legends with a special salute to the one and only Grover Washington Jr. for one magical night -two shows at the newest series for great jazz in Philly-Second Thursday Jazz at Alma Mater Philadelphia. #phillyjazz #jazzmusic

With a star-studded history of musical collaborations including artists such as Aretha Franklin, Wynton Marsalis, Lou Reed, World Saxophone Quartet, Dee Dee Bridgewater. Kathleen Battle, Lester Bowie and Poncho Sanchez, Mr Carter truly displays his musical versatility.  Playing since the age of 11, Carter’s seamless transition from swing, bop and avant-garde to concerto to soul and blues fascinates audiences and jazz aficionados alike and makes him one of the most sought after musicians on the international music scene.  Carter has an amazing Philadelphia-based-band for this one-time event with Adam Faulk on piano, Lee Smith on bass, David F. Gibson on drums and Louis Taylor on alto sax.

"James Carter has cemented his reputation as one of the most adventurous, visionary young reed players on the cusp of this new millennium.... Not as an outsider, but as one of the most exciting young virtuosos in contemporary music...."
